David Howell has been involved in Christian Youth Work for over forty years. He trained for the Baptist Ministry at Regent’s Park College Oxford, has been an Assistant Minister at Gorse Hill Baptist Church, Swindon and was Director of Swindon Youth for Christ from 1980 to 1996. In October 1996 he was appointed to Centre for Youth Ministry where he was the National Director, and involved in establishing qualifying courses in Christian Youth Work with Oxford Brookes University and the University of Gloucestershire. In his time with CYM he saw the organisation grow to become the largest provider of full-time professional grade Youth & Community Work courses in the country and one of the biggest Youth Work training colleges in the world.
He is currently a Freelance Consultant in Further and Higher Education and a trainer in Christian Youth Work. In addition he represents the Christian Youth Work constituency on the Sector Skills Council for Youth Work (Lifelong Learning UK), at the National Youth Agency and on various other national fora.
